Integrated Hazard Information Services (IHIS) Workshop
(Working Title for the Next Generation Warning Tool (NGWT))
Boulder, CO
October 27-29, 2009
(Tuesday 8:00 am - Thursday Noon)
Workshop Focus
The workshop brought together the full spectrum of stakeholders to improve the National Weather Service (NWS) Warning program. We appreciate your valuable perspectives and ideas and would like to thank you for participating! This is a challenging endeavor which seeks to transition the current Warning Program from a paradigm of issuing products to one of decision support. There is both innovation and challenge in bringing all stakeholders together in one room to represent each of their interests; the scope is broad, but the reward will be a design that encompasses the full range of requirements.
The workshop fostered collaboration between decision makers
(emergency managers, the media, private sector customers...), social
scientists (WAS*IS / SSWIM members), operational weather forecasters,
software designers and developers, and program managers from diverse
organizations across NOAA and the private sector. We hope to build a
flexible, extensible framework which can accommodate the essential
existing capabilities as well as allow for the creation of new,
state-of-the-art products and tools.
